Project Roles are a way to manage access across a project for virtually every feature. From editing devices, sharing public graphing profiles, or creating project-based Alerts you will find that project roles are a vital tool for managing work between colleagues. Furthermore, you have the ability to restrict accessibility for users that only need to view or graph the data.
Every user must be assigned a project role in the project settings. The project roles determine permissions that control what a user is able to do. There are three different project roles:
Creator | Editor | Data Analyst | Viewer |
Add connections, devices, sensors
Delete connections, devices, and sensors
Add or delete documents

Make private profile | Make private profile | Make private profile | Make private profile |
Note: Project Assets include connections, devices, sensors, documents, and integrations. Profiles include graphs, polar, XY plots, tables, import, maps, imageview, alerts, and reports.
Creator
A Creator is the highest project role a user can have. It is designed for users responsible for the entire project from administering the setup to overseeing the data. Only a Creator can add and delete project assets. The user can also edit asset settings like power schedule, sampling rate, and location. Creators have no restrictions for profiles. They can create, edit, or delete publicly shared profiles in all software modules.
Admin and Project Managers will have Creator rights on all projects they have access to. Basic users and Cross-organization users can be upgraded to Creator.
Editor
The Editor role is for users that are involved in the configuration and overview of the sensors. They will not be able to setup connections, devices, or sensors but they can edit their settings once established. This includes setting the Thread power schedule, sensor calibration factors, alerts, and more.
Editors can create or edit public profiles in the project.
Data Analyst
The Data Analyst role is for users that are highly involved in the day-to-day of managing the data, but do not need full access to the project. They are not able to setup or edit any project assets including connections/devices/sensors and documents.
Data Analysts have full access to project profiles so they are able to create and manage project alerts, reports, and data or graphing profiles.
Viewer
The Viewer role is designed for users that just need access to the data. They can open all profiles and assets shared publicly to the project and create private ones if they need to see a specific data set. However, they cannot edit any of the public profiles or assets on the project.
